Probes
A probe is one of the most important parts of the U/S machine. It depends on the probe which organs and at what depth can be examined. For example, a probe designed for children won’t be powerful enough to examine the organs of adult patients and vice versa.
The cost of an ultrasound scanner depends mostly on the set of probes included in the package. Therefore, before buying, you need to know exactly the area of use of the machine.
Ultrasound probes can also be purchased separately from the machine. At the same time, you should consider that different probe models are produced for different scanner models. Before ordering a probe, make sure it fits your scanner. For example, probes for portable U/S machines may not be suitable for stationary models and vice versa.

Phase Array U/S Probe
Each element of these probes works independently of each other. The resulting image has a very narrow near zone and a wide far zone. The scanning surface is small in size, which allows scanning in hard-to-reach places (the heart between the ribs, the brain through the “windows” in the skull). The scanning angle is 90 degrees (allows you to cover the heart) in most cases.
These probes have a high frame rate. They are used in cardiology (echocardiography) and for transcranial Doppler.

Edocavitary U/S Probe
For examinations in the field of gynecology, obstetrics and urology an endocavitary U/S probe is used.
Transvaginal probes are used to diagnose the pelvic organs and the fetus at an early stage of pregnancy (first trimester), have a beveled view relative to the axis of the probe (this is done taking into account the anatomical shape and position of the uterus).

Convex U/S Probe
Convex U/S probes are mainly used as basic probes for the diagnosis of the abdominal area (abdominal cavity: liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen) and pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, ovaries), fetus in the late stages of pregnancy. They have a curved surface, which is due to their anatomical applicability.

Linear TRT U/S Probe
A combined biplane probe for conducting examination in linear and convective mode. Transrectal endocavitary micro-convex probes are used to diagnose the prostate gland (prostate) and take a prostate biopsy.
They have a direct view (end-fire), a straight handle and a symmetrical head (to make it easier to rotate the sensor around its axis to inspect different projections).

Micro-convex U/S probes
Micro-convex U/S probes are analogous to convex probes in their design, however, with a much smaller scanning head compared to convex probes. Microconvex probes can be used for external and intra-cavity applications.
It is used, as a rule, for the same examinations, but only in pediatrics or for specific purposes: operating and surgical applications, control of lithotripsy.

Linear U/S probe
Linear probes have a flat radiating surface. They differ in aperture and frequency range.
These probes are used to examine surface structures such as the mammary gland, thyroid gland, small joints and muscles and to inspect blood vessels.
